Weed proved costly for labourer

COURT TODAY BLOCKA labourer from 5th Avenue, Holders Land, Brandons, St Michael was fined $350 today by District ‘A’ Magistrate Douglas Frederick after he pleaded guilty to having $5 worth of cannabis in his possession on May 3, 2016.

Mark Anthony Winston Blanche, 38, was ordered to pay the fine forthwith or spend one month in jail. It was not immediately known if he paid the money.

When asked if he had anything to say, Blanche, who has several other convictions of a similar nature, shook his head and said softly, “no”.

Prosecutor Station Sergeant Neville Watson told the court that officers on patrol in Brandons saw Blanche on the outside sitting with other men and detected a strong scent. He said they got out of their vehicle and on approaching the accused, he ran. Police caught up with him and found the drug.

He was represented by attorney-at-law Roy Hurley.
