Update: Accused cop granted bail

A police constable charged with having intercourse with a minor has been released on bail after appearing at the Holetown Magistrate court this morning.

Magistrate Wanda Blair read two counts to Donaghue St. Orville Pollard, 38, who was not required to plead to the indictable offences of having intercourse with the girl between July 1 and August 31, 2015 while the complainant was 12 years old and again on May 1 this year, while she was aged 13.

There was no objection to bail and Pollard was released on $10 000 bail with one surety.

The cop, who was represented by attorney-at-law Kevin Miller, was ordered to surrender his travel documents and warned to keep away from the complainant.

He returns to court on September 5.

“Bail” is getting released until the case start. At that stage we don’t know who is guilty or not because no evidence has been put forward yet. The potato men pleaded guilty so they didn’t need bail – they admitted the crime up front so we didn’t need evidence – their case finished. The court decided that prison was a fitting punishment.

We would have to see what happens when someone gets found guilty of sex with a minor – then we could compare the sentence to that of the potato men.

Pat James the guy *accused* of murder got bail the same way – his matter hasn’t started so the court looked at whether he was a flight risk, whether he was likely to interfere with witnesses and the other factors stayed in the Bail Act before deciding to release him until his case starts.

I agree the system is a mess but people getting bail isn’t a problem.

Hunte Omar, that is what you think, but it is quite the opposite sir, because you’re actually guilty until you can prove your innocence. Look how many innocent people are sitting in jail today over faulty DNA, Fiber, and Fingerprints analysis as well as unrealizable and falsified Eyewitness Testimony. If you’re a male you never want to be accused of a sexual allegation against a child, because even if it is not true your reputation will be damage permanently.
