$3,000 fine for cannabis

COURT TODAY BLOCKA 26-year-old man, who said he now works in a wine store at a local hotel, was today fined $3,000 for having $2,600 worth of cannabis in his possession.

However, District “A” Magistrate Douglas Frederick told Rashidi Camara DaCosta Norman of 3N Country Park Towers, Country Road, St Michael that he had to pay the fine in four months, or spend six months in jail.

“If you get involved in drugs again, you going straight to jail,” Frederick warned Norman.

He told the court he did not want to lose his job and would not get involved in drugs again because he could not afford to do so.

He assured the magistrate he would endeavour to raise the money to pay the fine honestly through his job and with the assistance of “a lot of people who respect me”.
