Cassava thief held

COURT TODAY BLOCKA 40-year-old man who confessed to stealing 15 pounds of cassava from a plantation in St Philip last week, has been remanded to prison.

Last week, police spotted Henderson Sylvester Burgess of no fixed address walking along Halton Road, St Philip just after midnight.

He was stopped and questioned, and after admitting to stealing the cassavas, he directed the officers to Chapel Plantation, St Philip.

Manager Clyde Craigg confirmed that cassava had been stolen from the plantation sometime between last Wednesday and Thursday.

Yesterday, Acting Chief Magistrate Christopher Birch remanded Burgess until May 12, when he will return to court for sentencing.
