Utopia coming to the Fantasy band
Fantasy is focusing on all things positive this year. Bandleader Amanda Reifer told Bajan Vibes last Saturday night at the launch at the Barbados Yacht Club that she believed the world could use some type of utopia.
“Utopia is the theme for Fantasy, 2016. It means paradise, perfect world.
“And in this world that we have now, with all the recession in Barbados; in a world with ISIS and terrorism and all these problems, the world needs utopia. That is what we want to portray this year.
“We want to focus on the positives and the good things in life, and all the things we have to be thankful for,” Reifer explained.
She said band members had tossed around many ideas before settling on this one, which they believed was the best one right now.
The bandleader said that since its inception in 2011, Fantasy had seen steady growth, and she was extremely proud of all it had achieved so far.
“We expect the growth to continue this year. We always say that we will manage the growth effectively. We have a brand that we have developed, and we will protect that brand at all costs.
We’re very satisfied and contented with how we are perceived in the market,” she added.
The band is known for bringing various celebrities to the island for Crop Over, including Columbus Short, formerly of Scandal.
Reifer said everyone in the band was seen as a VIP, and that she was looking forward to a great time on the road, come August 1.
“We will always be a community band. Very early on, we realized that the survival of our band was dependent on our developing a strategy that had a global and international approach.
The only way we are going to continue to grow is to look outside.
“See [not only] the growth, but the type of clientele we have been able to attract all over the world. And because of that there is always a little pressure in continuing to raise the bar; but I am extremely proud of the band. Everyone in Fantasy is a celebrity and VIP. We are the trendsetters in Barbados.”
The band house is located at The Veranda, University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, St Michael.
