Christ Church man charged with several offences

Leon Lawrence of Cane Vale, Christ Church, is expected to appear in the District A Magistrates Court tomorrow on several charges, including assault, drugs and firearms offences.

The 26-year-old was arrested and charged on March 15 with two counts of assaulting police officers, illegal possession of cannabis, possession with intent to supply, trafficking, illegal possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and unlawful possession of two empty magazines.

Police say during an operation on that date in Silver Hill, Christ Church officers were assaulted by Lawrence who was armed with a firearm. A police officer, in his defence, fired his service weapon. Lawrence was eventually detained and found to be suffering from a deep cut to his right heel; he was barefoot.

In an unrelated matter, Lawrence was charged with serious bodily harm and unlawful use of a firearm.
