Loiterer jailed for attempted theft

COURT TODAY BLOCKMaradona Lorenzo Anderson Springer was sentenced yesterday to nine months in prison after appearing in the District ‘A’ Magistrates Court before Magistrate Douglas Frederick on two charges.

Springer, who resides at Block 2 Apartment 5, Valery, Brittons Hill, St Michael admitted loitering on Paul Murrell’s property on March 11 and giving police cause to suspect he was there with the intent to commit theft.

He also pleaded guilty to a second offence of having articles for use in connection with burglary – namely, a screwdriver and a pair of gloves.

According to the prosecution, Murrell arrived home and saw Springer pulling at his door handle. Springer ran when he saw the homeowner but neighbours held him and called the police.

The unemployed 29-year-old was sentenced to six months on the first count and three more on the second, to run consecutively.

    This “loitering” business that the Police keep using against Black People needs to be challenged. I am wondering what time of the day it was when he was charged with “loitering”? “loitering” is time specific.

    Some of us still remember that this so called “loitering” was used by White people to get at Black people many decades ago.

    Just research how old this “Law” is.

      Ah wuh dis Carson C Cadogan ah really seh, According to the prosecution, Murrell arrived home and saw Springer pulling at his door handle. Springer ran when he saw the homeowner but neighbours held him and called the police. de man was loitering on Murrell property, time of the day got nothing to do with it, should be my property.
