Dr William Duguid is the front runner to replace Dr Maria Agard in Christ Church West

The Opposition Barbados Labour Party (BLP) will soon have a new Christ Church West representative.

A date has been set for the highly anticipated nomination meeting, where a replacement will be named to succeed Dr Maria Agard, the former BLP representative for the area.

A party circular, which surfaced today, confirmed that the meeting would be held on March 31 at the Arthur Smith Primary School, St Matthias, at 6:30 p.m.

According to reports, Dr William Duguid –  who recently made a comeback to politics after resigning the Christ Church West seat, which he held from 2003 to 2013, and migrating to Canada with his family – is the favoured to replace Dr Agard, who was expelled from the party last November.

To date, no other candidates have publicly expressed an interest in contesting the southern riding.

Question. . .If Dr Maria Agard has a court case challenging the process by which she has been expelled from the BLP [which is still sub judice], and the party goes ahead and names a replacement before the case has been determined, isn’t there some contempt for due process there? Maybe some lawyer could help me.

Naming a replacement doesn’t mean anything. The BLP can name anybody ..even Peter Bradshaw ,but the process has to be endorsed by the higher ups.,even then it won’t make any sense her running as a BLP unless Mia is overturn and pro Mia supporters support her.

Ms. Agard is challenging her expulsion from the party, not the party’s right to choose someone else to run in the constituency.
The courts have no jurisdiction over that.

Wade bare in mindustry that the court can’t tell the party whether or not to take her back, the most it can say is whether or not the procedure followed was consistent with the provisions of the Constitution of the country and the party. But also if I remember correctly if she wins she’ll win damages, so replacing a candidate now there wouldn’t be in contempt with anything.

They are not many “pro Mia supporters” in the BLP.

This is called BURNING YOUR BRIDGES BEHIND YOU.

He drop the constituents like hot bricks, hop on a Jumbo Jet, headed for Canada, things didnt work out , now he is back to do what?

Verla Depeiza will take that seat hands down. A woman of the people who is always there for them. Duguid is history, he is like a bad dream that the constituents dont want to remember.
