Three months on the run ends for escapee

COURT TODAY BLOCKThe long arm of the law finally caught up to a man who escaped police custody more than three months ago.

When he appeared before Magistrate Douglas Frederick in the District ‘A’ Magistrates Court today, Rommel Antonio Laron Daniel was not required to plead to escaping lawful custody without the use of force on December 5, 2015.

Daniel, 33, of Airy Cot, St Thomas escaped while being escorted to the prison bus, after he had been remanded to HMP Dodds on an aggravated burglary charge.

On his return to court today, however, Daniel told the magistrate he had been living at the house of the same female who had charged him.

“That is a beautiful defence that you have, but you spoiled the waters,” Frederick explained to him.

“You’ve only made things worse on yourself.”

He then remanded Daniel to prison until April 6.
