Drug squad operation yields results

An illegal drug eradication operation in several parts of the island yesterday resulted in the seizure of 1,683 cannabis plants and led to the arrest of one man.

Police Public Relations Officer Acting Assistant Superintendent David Welch reported that 841 plants were found under cultivation in Chalky Mount, St Andrew; 65 plants in Claybury, St John; 331 plants in Church Village, St Philip; 430 plants in Supers, St Philip and 106 plants in Vineyard, St Philip.

As a result of the operation, Adrian Juan Lorde, 39, of Parish Land, St Philip was arrested and charged in connection with the seizure at the Vineyard. He appeared before the District “C” Magistrates’ Court yesterday and was remanded to HMP Dodds until Friday.

He is charged with cultivation of cannabis, possession, possession with intent to supply and trafficking.

The Police Drug Squad conducted the eradication exercise with the assistance of the Tactical Response and Anti-Gun Units and members of the Barbados Defence Force. (FW)
