GUYANA – Man chops grandson and daughter-in-law
GEORGETOWN –– An 18-year-old woman and her ten-month old baby are now patients of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) after they were chopped by the man whose care they were left in.
The mother Maria Jones and baby Omar Jones, of Lot 70, Independence Street, La Grange, West Bank Demerara, were rushed to the GPHC at around 8 p.m. on Saturday last, after they showed up at a neighbour’s house covered in blood.
Maria Jones refused to speak with Kaieteur News. However, she told her sister Camille Jones what happened that night and asked that her ordeal be relayed to the media.
Camille told Kaieteur News that her sister was left in the care of her father-in-law Jeewan (only name given) by her husband Vinod, who works in the interior.
The woman said that her sister told her that Jeewan came home under the influence of alcohol and was in the front yard talking to someone on his phone when she overheard him say: “The baby is not my son own.”
“After she hear him say that, she call out to him and asked him why he said that, and he slap her, and she say, that the two of them [Jeewan and Maria] start to fight in the house,” Camille said.
Camille said that her sister after breaking free of Jeewan’s “ground and pound” ran into the room where baby Omar was. She continued that Jeewan then picked up a cutlass and followed her sister into the room where the duo began tussling again.
It was during the ordeal that Jeewan tried forcing himself on Maria demanding that she have sex with him.
Maria fought him off, picked up her baby and ran towards the door to exit when Jeewan “fired two chops” on her right hand, around the elbow region.
How baby Omar got chopped in his head is shady, however. Residents believe that the position in which he was cradled in his mother’s hand when the chops were dealt, would have caused the blade to come in contact with his head.
According to neighbours, after hearing the ruckus, they began calling out to other residents and were about to intervene when Jeewan dashed through the back of the yard making good his escape.
The wounded mother and child were given treatment by the village women who then summoned another neighbour who took them to the hospital.
As the night progressed, baby Omar’s health fluctuated but yesterday, his condition was listed as stable.
Later that night Jeewan returned, and little did he know, the residents were waiting.
“As he go in the house so, meh call the police, and me and the police went and collect he,” a resident stated.
When Kaieteur News visited the area yesterday, residents revealed that Jeewan was a habitual abuser.
“He son [Vinod] had another girl that he bin bring home and Jeewan use to do the same thing. He try fuh rape the girl and he bite she on her face. The girl got a scar now; nice nice girl. He is a wicked man,” one woman said.
“The son is to blame too. He know what he father do he first wife and he go bring another woman fuh he father molest. The police better lost him away [in jail],” said another.
