Two main events at the Garrison on Saturday
Pay As You Go looks like the overwhelming favourite in the Michael Parravicino Memorial Hopeful Breeders Stakes And Trophy this Saturday –– the second day of the Barbados Turf Club’s 2016 horse racing season.
In her last race she won with ease over stable mate Stolen on November 21 in the MQI Juvenile Breeder’s Stakes and Trophy.
Pay As You Go is a winner of three of four starts and only lost was to crack two-year-old filly Daddy’s Wish over 1570 meters. So Pay As You Go will be looking to prove a point this weekend.
Daddy’s Wish will not be in the Hopeful line-up but it will not be all that easy for Pay As You Go.
Other rising stars in the Hopeful are Steven Allan who had a scintillating win on the first day of the season winning by eight lengths in only his second start over Saturday’s trip of 1570 meters.
Northern Star, a chestnut son of Carpe Diem from the stable of 2015 champion trainer Victor Cheeseman, looks like a next potential threat to Pay As You Go. Northern Star broke his maiden in his second start going 1570 meters on December 12 2015, with last year’s champion jockey Rickey Walcott astride. Walcott will likely be in the saddle once again this Saturday.
The Andrew Nunes-trained three-year old filly Siavonga had ran second to Northern Star in his maiden win but then won the very next start on Boxing Day beating the imported two year-olds in impressive fashion can’t be ignored in Saturday’s race which will more than likely be a superfecta. Other horses in the 10-horse line-up are Kitbak, Stolen, Sadler’s Dream, Pacha, Poetry In Motion and Midnite Chick
My selection for the Hopeful Stakes is Northern Star from Pay As You Go, Stolen with Siavonga closing for fourth.
The top class horses will clash over 1100 meters in the Palm Beach Condominium Handicap. This race could produce fireworks with the arguments among the rail birds being quite heated. Champion sprinter Shared Adventure, using the race as a prep towards the 2016 Spa Sprint, will be looking to make it three wins in that race and is expected to destroy this field.
Shared Adventure will be packing the top impost of 132 pounds. Imsogroovy defeated Shared Sdventure in their last two races over the 1100 meters trip and looks like the main danger to Shared Adventure. She will take 121 pounds. The young hot runner Dazzling David, winner of his last start going 1100 meters, will take the light weight of 110 pounds. This will be Dazzling David’s first time facing Shared Adventure.
The speedy Markos will be making a return to racing after an 11-month layoff. Other horses in the race are Wild Cat Tea, Lavani and Giovedi.
My selection is Shared Adventure from Imsogroovy with Dazzling David in third.
Nine races are on this Saturday’s schedule.
