‘It was just my little weed to smoke’

COURT TODAY BLOCKA St Michael man who was held with a knife and cannabis while liming in Bridgetown yesterday was made to pay fines totaling $800 when he appeared at the District ‘A’ Magistrates Court today.

Nicholas Kristen D’Angelo Gooding, 25, of My Lords Hill Main Road, St Michael pleaded guilty to possession of an offensive weapon, possession of cannabis and possession of apparatus.

He was fined $300 forthwith with an alternative of one month in prison for having a flick knife, and $500 forthwith or one month in prison for possession of cannabis.

The fines were paid and he was convicted, reprimanded and discharged for having the apparatus.

The court heard from police prosecutor Sargeant Martin Rock that police went to Swan Street where a group of men were liming and saw the accused. They searched Gooding and found a flick knife as well as 16 greaseproof wrappings containing cannabis.

When asked to account for them he said, “I have the knife for my protection and it is just my little weed to smoke.”

Gooding was arrested and a search warrant was executed at his house.

A scale was found on the premises and he admitted he used it to weigh weed.
