Lewis and Moseley shine

Members of the Barbados Davis Cup team continue to show their dominance in the ongoing Barbados Lawn Tennis Association’s Top Eight Invitational tournament currently being held at the National Tennis Center.

All except Seanon Williams.When matches commenced on the second day of competition yesterday Russell Moseley made light work of 2015 men’s national champions Xavier Lawrence, defeating him in straight sets 6-4, 3-2, with Lawerence retiring in the second set.

Barbados’ number two player Haydn Lewis came up against Mathew Hutchinson, a student at Southern Illinois University, with the latter knowing he would need to bring his ‘A’ game to stand a chance against the 29-year-old Lewis.

Unfortunately he did not, and Lewis, who holds the record for the most Davis Cup victories won comfortably in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.However, things didn’t go quite as smoothly for Williams in his Group two match against Matthew Foster Estwick, as he went down 6-7, 7-6. 6-7, in a marathon encounter.It was Williams second consecutive loss of the tournament after losing to Lewis on the opening day.

The Hornby brothers Adam and Richard faced off against each other in Group one and it was Adam of Dalton State University that outplayed his sibling Richard also overseas at University of West Florida 7-5, 6-4 in a closely contested showdown.

In Saturday’s matches Adam Hornby defeated Lawrence 7-6, 6-1, Williams was thrashed by fellow Davis Cup teammate Lewis 6-2, 6-1 and Hutchinson won 6-1, 6-0 over Foster-Estwick.
