Sandy Lane threatens to pull out of BHTA

The luxurious Sandy Lane Hotel is threatening to pull out of the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA) and the Barbados Workers Union (BWU), which represents unionised employees there, has summoned its members to two emergency sessions on Monday.

The developments come against the backdrop of an eight per cent increase announced by the BHTA for hotel workers over the next three years.

In a statement yesterday, the BWU said its General Secretary Toni Moore and her deputy, Dwaine Paul, would meet with Sandy Lane workers to discuss a number of critical issues, including the BHTA and the BWU negotiations.

HERE we go again another big corporation trying to take home the bulk of the money on the backs of its employees. 8% isn’t going to affect them because it’s not even direct but over the course of 3 years. If they cared about their workers all they have to do is pass the cost to their wealthy guests. I bet you they will want to take both for the ride because its only about profit. Capitalism is greed disguise as business.

Are you asking or saying they are paid more? What about increases in the cost of living shouldn’t workers be given additional pay to take that into account. You may be jealous but I am sure these workers want to be paid fairly and jealousy doesn’t even come into their mind!

Cora Woodhead, you misunderstood me . I am pure anti-establishment. I want the workers to get what they think is fair and more. I want the wealth to be shared evenly.. I only take 5 guests or so every week to make up the difference. What’s happening is ridiculous. They sole interest is to increase profits every year even if it means robbing their employees..
