Agard to challenge expulsion

Embattled MP for Christ Church West Dr Maria Agard has confirmed that she will challenge her expulsion from the Opposition Barbados Labour Party (BLP).

Dr Agard’s attorney Hal Gollop told a news conference this morning that he has written to the party, giving it seven days to overturn the November 22 decision, or the matter will be taken to court.

Dr Maria Agard.
Dr Maria Agard.

Dr Agard told reporters she was expelled for daring to be different and speaking out against “bullying leadership”

She also said she was targeted because she challenged the political leader, Mia Mottley, who is not accustomed to being told she is wrong.

Dr Agard claimed her dismissal from the BLP was not based on the nine charges laid against her, but on accusations of poor representation, which were not among those formally listed.

This woman is a real political lightweight.

That’s what you hope she would be, but her actions suggest otherwise. She clearly does not need politics, or to be a minister and therefore she is free to be of independent thought and actions and that is dangerous only to a weak Leader in our mixed government system. By daring to tie up the BLP in court action for possibly the next two years she will have the upper hand in this fight and can bring Mia to her knees with regards to her goal of being Prime Minister of Barbados which relies heavily on a presenting a united political party to the voting public.

Adrian Hinds, sounds like vengeful thinking to me.

You really believe that is the way so called educated people should act?

      Not logical at all.

Adrian Hinds, Clearly you have a basic misunderstanding of the issue. Humor us please, by explaining how a case filed in court would tie up the BLP for two year or even two days. Are you thinking in the realm of sanity.

Mr. Gallop, why are you misleading this woman?

This woman walked out of a legitimate internal BLP party procedure and the party used its constitutional powers to extricate her.

She is done. Get over it.

Let’s play devil’s advocate and say she wins reinstatement. What will she be coming back into the party to do? Challenge the leader again?

This is a whole lot of crap.

Woman isn’t done. She is on sound footing and there is no need to get over anything. The job is to ensure that Mia Mottley is weak thus making the BLP electable with Mia as its leader thereby vanquishing her goal of PM.

If she wins Mia becomes damage goods as BLP leader – job accomplished.

If she loses she could still run as an independent and split the BLP vote which increases the DLP gaining a win in a BLP stronghold.

If the case is protracted and unsettled up until the next election is called it can help defeat the BLP.

To-date public opinion is overwhelmingly in her favor and can be a major player in the next election if it is still fresh in the public’s mind.

Adrian Hunte, seems as if you are attempting to bring the American vendetta way of politics into Barbados politics.

Craziness should not be allowed in Barbados politics.

Dr. Agard is beginning to come over as a crazy person, don’t know when when to give it a rest.

Four years of behaving like a fool and still exhibiting foolish behavior after coming out the loser.

      Pure nonsense.

LOL! I wouldn’t even try to view Bajan politics via the prism of the American version. Quite frankly the american version of leader is a popularly elected one; whereas if such was the case in Barbados, and it is not, Owen Arthur would still be PM today; and Mia who in spite of what she has sold to the BLP could never aspire to that post since her popularity is contained within her constituency only. Mia is hoping to ride into the PMship on the back of a united BLP; such is the position of the weak Leader.

What she’s saying doesn’t make any sense to me, the christ church executives ain’t saying that nor others from the constituency.
