Local culinary arts on display

Members of the public treated to some of the best local culinary products this weekend at the NIFCA Culinary Arts and Expo at the Sir Garfield Sobers Gymnasium.

The expo, which began on Friday, was about “everything culinary taking centre stage”, said chief executive officer of the National Cultural Foundation, Cranston Browne.

Browne noted that this was the second staging of the expo, and that “the culinary arts discipline has grown in popularity from year to year”.

“As we continue to track this evolutionary path more and more, its potential to develop into a viable economic stimulant for other industries becomes evident,” Browne said.

He added that the culinary arts competition was in the spirit of NIFCA, which aims to highlight and improve Barbadian talent on the national stage.

“What NIFCA is all about… introducing participants to the realm of possibilities and encouraging these potential culinary entrepreneurs to take their craft to the next level, to the commercial enterprise and to the wider world,” Browne said.

Browne described Edey as a “proponent of the use of local produce and the preservation of all things traditional”.
