Investigation launched into death of toddler

Just over a week after six-year-old Jahan King was laid to rest, police are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a three-year-old.

According to a release from police public relations officer Acting Assistant Superintendent David Welch, police have commenced an investigation into the unnatural death of a girl who died at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) on Friday after 10 p.m.

Welch also revealed that the three-year-old had been treated and discharged from the QEH two weeks ago.

The death of King, who passed away on June 29 at the QEH sent the country into shock, as reports of child abuse surfaced.

An investigation has already been launched into his death, after the results of an autopsy determined that the former student of the Lawerence T Gay Memorial had died as a result of blunt force trauma.

Was released 2 weeks ago from QEH after treatment??!!???? WTH – treated for what?? Suspicion of Child Abuse??? Why are we only now hearing about this? Now the little girl dies “under suspicious circumstances” on Friday?!? Tell me I am not reading this, and tell me that it was not reported to Child Care Offices, and tell me if it indeed was reported why nothing was done yet again. And why is it taking so long for the arrest of the people responsible for killing these little children? I am speechless, shocked and outraged

Not my business, it is the business of all of us to be aware of anything wrong going on in our neighborhood especially when it comes to children, children that are abused don’t have a voice cause they are too scared, you gotta be that voice for them. If it would have been reported when the child was treated and released in hospital there would have been a chance that the girl might still be alive today. But alas you reckon we should all wait and don’t interfere until it becomes a “Investigation into an Unnatural Death”. That’s the problem right here

I do agree with Elke Hassell. People need to speak out about such cases & child abuse cases seem to be getting worse. These children are babies, how could people be so cruel to them. It breaks my heart.

What if it wasn’t abuse, will you all post an apology to the parents?

Elke Hassel, you need to sit down and chill out. Unless you have the facts (I’m sure you don’t) your comments are very insulting to the family.
As much as child abuse is wrong and has no place in any society, gossip and false accusations can also hurt them.
Will you offer an apology when all you have said is proven wrong?
Stop feeding into the sensational and irresponsible journalism that is Barbados Today.

Elke the article is very vague with a lot of ??????. You are right, why is the public now hearing about it and since the child went to QEH what did they find?

Adrian the death of a child under any circumstance is not “sensational neither is it irresponsible reporting.” The article is very vague with lots of inferences leaning towards child abuse. One child dead at the hands of other is very troubling and one too many.

Dianne, by your admission, the article is vague and purposely so to get the malicious Bajans tongues wagging.
I bet you no investigation by the reporters was done.
I bet you they haven’t spoken to the parents to get a clearer picture before publishing . It is sensational and very irresponsible but that’s what malicious, ignorant people enjoy as gossip spreads faster than the truth in Bim.
When the rich man shot his child, not a word of neglect or abuse was mentioned. Until this day, we haven’t even heard the true story but it just goes to show how quickly we rush to judge this case.
While I agree a child is dead, it does not give you or anyone the right to accuse anyone without knowing the facts.
The writer intentionally placed the lean on the article and you all have swallowed it hook line and sinker like the gullible people you are, without question or reason.
I will ask you as I have asked the others, will you have the decency to apologise if proven wrong?

I agree with you Adrian. We need more facts before we sit in judgement.

Until the police start arresting these monsters and the courts hand down severe punishment this nonsense will go on. As mentioned in the article no one has been arrested for little Angel Jahan, although it was determined he had blunt force to his chest and it was not from resuscitation. How many more children have to die like this?

Well said Adrain M Chase. Rather than wait to get the full story the public has been nominated as judge, jury and executioner. That is why there is an investigation. Fastest thing is hang this and hang that yet you pretend so be so cosmopolitan and have amnesty international so wrapped up in the black mans affairs that it will never happen in Caricom furthermore Bim. You wait, you see if any offences have been committed and then if it suits you then comment. You need say A and you run off down to Z with some reporter 5 paragraph article. Jus wait and see sheeshhhhhh…….
