SSA employee collapses and dies in The City
A Sanitation Services Authority (SSA) employee collapsed and died this afternoon while walking on St Mary’s Row, The City.
Fifty-five-year-old David Bellamy of no. 5 Trellis Walk, Grazettes, St Michael had just left his sister Sonia Bellamy, who lives at President Kennedy Drive, St Michael when he died.
Bellamy, who worked at the SSA in the Pine, St Michael as a security guard for the past 29 years, was said to be suffering from a heart condition and was a patient of one of the island’s cardiologists.
Reacting to the sudden passing of her brother today, Bellamy’s other sister Diana Grant who lives in New Orleans, the City told Barbados TODAY she was traumatized by his death.
“This a shock to the family because in October 2014 my father passed away, then in November of the same year my aunt passed away and now this sudden death,” said Grant, who described Bellamy as “a fun- loving person who was always there for his family. If there was a dispute in the family he always tried to bring the parties together. He was a very quiet person”.
Grant recalled that just before his untimely passing she had told her brother that she was planning to build a house and he told her: “Diana as soon as you are ready let me know because I will come and assist you in building the home.”
Bellamy was the nephew of the late lead singer of the once popular Opels of the 1960s and 1970s, Hubert “Angel” Grant.
