Hinds gets US scholarship
Multi-talented student athlete Tre Hinds, 19, has obtained a track and field scholarship to Wayland Baptist University in Texas, United States.
Hinds, a former student of Queen’s College, and a member of both Wibisco Stars Track Club and the Barbados Soccer Academy (BSA), left the Island on Wednesday for the university to study business finance and also compete in track and field and soccer for the university.
Hinds captained the Boscobel Primary School soccer team in the BICO Primary Schools Competition in 2007 and also represented the school at NAPSAC. Hinds joined the Wibisco Track Club in 2007 and came under the guidance of top athletics coach Jerston Clarke.
“I have a lot of respect for Jerston who influenced and developed my track and field ability. I must also praise my school’s track and field and soccer coaches for their constant support over the years,” Hinds said, while also praising the efforts of BSA’s chief executive officer Jabez “Jack” Bovell in his development.
Bovell noted that Hinds was a positional player, with good vision, excellent awareness, good instinctive reactions, strength and tenacity to win balls, good balance and agility. He also pointed to his speed, endurance and mental toughness.
“Hinds will definitely be an impact player on Wayland Baptist University track and field and soccer programmes,” Bovell said.
