BFA stage grassroots camp
An initiative between the Barbados Football Association (BFA) and the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Culture has seen another grassroots programme being presented to the summer camps. The excited campers were part of the Government Summer Camps Programme at the Arthur Smith Primary School in St Matthias, Christ Church.
The programme held last Friday from 9 a.m. until 11:30 p.m. involved a mix of 45 male and female campers. They were not deterred from participating fully in the football sessions despite the intermittent showers.
General secretary of the BFA, Edwyn Wood, said grassroots was the pillar by which the game was developed in Barbados and across the world.
“We are pleased to be able to introduce this programme to campers and other children who would not have otherwise had the opportunity to play in a structured football programme. We hope that we have made an impact on them and encourage them to seek out being actively involved,” Wood noted.
The programme will continue with another installment prior to the end of summer and will move ahead in the schools and communities once the term resumes. Interested summer camps can contact the BFA’s office at 228-1707.
