UPDATE: Depression strengthens into Tropical Storm Danny

As meteorologists predicted Tropical Depression Number Four has strengthened into Tropical Storm Danny.

The National Hurricane Center in its 5 p.m. bulletin said Danny was located 1,595 miles east of the Windward Islands.

The center of the system was located near latitude 10.9 north , longtitude 37.5 west.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 40 mph and forecasters expect Danny to strengthen to become a Hurricane by Thursday.

The storm is moving towards the west near 12 miles per hour and forecasters say given its slow movement, it may be a week or so before it reaches the Caribbean.

There are no storm watches or warnings in effect at this time.
