Netballers go down again

Second game. Second blowout.

Barbados’ netballers suffered their second embarrassment of the 2015 Netball World Cup when they were demolished by the number one ranked Australian Diamonds 83-16.

The defeat followed their similarly humiliating 73-28 loss to New Zealand in their opening match on Friday night.

The match was virtually decided in the first set, when Australia quickly rushed out to a commanding 20-3 lead. Things didn’t get any better for the Bajan girls, who trailed by 29 points at the half (38-7).

For Barbados, Shonica Wharton scored seven of her 13 attempts, Nikita Piggott scored five of 11 and Sheniqua Thomas netted four of her five shots.

They will now battle neighbours Trinidad and Tobago, who are also 0-2, following losses to the same opponents.

It wasn’t a good day for the Caribbean sides, as Jamaica also went down to England 54-50.
