Team Barbados one win away from gold

Team Barbados is all smiles after their victory over the Stockholm Saints

Team Barbados is just one step away from taking gold at this year’s WOZ Challenge Cup.

The national segway polo side advanced to the finals of the competition after defeating their arch-rivals, the Stockholm Saints 1-0 yesterday.

It was sweet revenge for the Bajans, who were defeated by the Saints in the 2013 finals, as well as in the UK Segway Polo competition earlier this year.

In a contest which went down to the wire, it took a brilliant strike from Brett Callaghan in extra-time to send them through to the championship match where they will face the Balve Mammoths.

David Eastmond had earlier produced a brilliant save to deny the Saints, after they had been awarded a penalty.

Barbados captured back-to-back titles in 2009 and 2010, but had to settle for second position at both the 2011 and 2013 Cups.
