Jamaica – Commissioner commits to bringing cop killers to justice
KINGSTON –– Following the brutal slaying of woman constable Crystal Thomas last night, Commissioner of Police Dr Carl Williams has joined many in strongly condemning the actions of those responsible, and has given his commitment to ensuring all is done to bring her killers to justice.
“Criminals seem to be more daring and embolden as they plunder through the lives of innocent Jamaican citizens and launch repeated violent attacks on the members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force,” Williams said.
He said these repeated attacks on members of the security forces seemed to be fuelled by constant, negative sentiments expressed against them even as they dedicated their lives to the service of the country
“During her service, she exemplified herself as an honest, dedicated and valiant individual. There is no doubt that she would have excelled in this organization had her life not been cut short by those hoodlums, who are dedicated to causing mayhem and chaos in our society, with their murderous intentions,” the police commissioner said.
The Police High Command has since assigned top-level investigators to bring the killers to justice and has since taken two suspects into custody in relation to last night’s brutal murder.
Reports are that Constable Thomas had just left work at the Denham Town Police Station and boarded a bus for home. It is further reported that a robbery was taking place on the bus. The gunmen held up the driver at gunpoint and while the bus was travelling along Spanish Town Road, ordered the driver to turn off the main road.
The brave female police officer, realizing what was happening, challenged the men and was fatally shot.
Her death has sent shock waves through the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
Scores of her colleagues are at this moment trying to come to grips with her brutal murder.
ACP Quallo met with the staff of the Denham Town Police Station during the course of the day, and that counsellors from the JCF were on hand to assist.
Woman Constable Crystal Thomas, who was stationed at the Kingston Western Division, served the police service for a little over four years, having first enlisted in the Island Special Constabulary Force (ISCF) before it was merged with the Jamaica Constabulary Force in 2014.
