BRA warns of counterfeit cheques
The Barbados Revenue Authority is advising the public to be extra vigilant following reports that counterfeit cheques, purportedly issued by the BRA, are in circulation.
The BRA is also warning local non-banking entities to be alert when accepting such payments on behalf of the institution.
“Persons should desist from accepting fraudulent cheques and do so at their own risk,” the BRA said in a brief statement.
“Anyone who is suspicious of any such cheques should inform the Authority and the royal Barbados Police Force,” it added.
The BRA has confirmed that there was one failed attempt by a member of the public to cash a false cheque and the incident has been reported to the Fraud Squad of the Royal Barbados Police Force. (PR)
