Teenagers caught stealing from visitor

COURT TODAY BLOCKTwo teens pleaded guilty to stealing several items worth $1 598. 39 from an English visitor on Sunday.

After appearing in the Holetown Magistrates’ Court today, presentencing reports were ordered for Dennis Jamoilo Brown, 17, and Michael Tyrique Worrell, 19, both of Farm Road, St Peter.

The court heard from Sergeant Robert Jones how Laura Weller and her family arrived in Barbados on June 29 for a holiday and were staying at a St Peter resort.

When Weller arrived at the Grantley Adams International Airport, she was given a Little Switzerland bag in which she had placed her waist-bag, which had several items inside, including an Iphone and a cellular phone.

A few days later when she went to the beach with her father, they placed two beach chairs close to a gazebo. She put the Little Switzerland bag, still with the waist-bag inside it, under her beach chair.

Brown and Worrell, who were both sitting under a nearby tree at the time, asked Weller whether she snorted cocaine or smoked marijuana. She replied “no”.

Weller fell asleep and her father retired to his room. The thieves then removed the waist-bag and left. When Weller awoke and searched for her belongings, they were nowhere to be found. She gave a description to security at the resort, who knew the young men from frequenting the area. The teenagers were held, the police summoned and the waist-bag and cellular phone recovered.

The two, who are first-time offenders, were placed on $3 000 bail until they return to court on September 25.

Aww, they dont need any bail, they need jail time, if they have the heart to ask the lady about snorting cocaine, then to steal her belongings, they should have some time at Dodds, so they can sit and reflect on their actions. Bail, gives them the opportunity to strike again.
