The school system has failed Barbados. These youngsters need guidance and while it is the responsibility of the parents to provide that guidance, some training must take place at school. At school is where bad habits are wrought among your peers who you try to impress sometimes with outlandish behaviour. If behaviours are taught at home but not reinforced at school, we are spinning top in mud. The schools are now employing teachers some of who are just looking for a salary. Some of them do not really like teaching so they make no extra effort when faced with any challenge re slow learners or difficult children Some of them just want to pay mortgage for house land and car and could not care less who learn. Some of them are in conflict with the students at a kind of riff raff gutter level and they care little about anybody. The rise of selfishness, ‘dont carishness’ and lawlessness in Barbadian society have their genesis in the schools. In a school system that focuses predominantly on people attaining paper qualification and if you seem not to be in that stream , you are pushed one side, we will have dropouts with low self esteem creating problems for society.

Please revamp the education system. I know that wunna dont listen to nuhbody. That a simple few words on a blog mean nuttin to wunna because wunna Big-up and do not value anything if it does not come from yourself or some person from the North Atlantic countries, but please dont let my country.
go down -please !!! Funny enough I started to read this article and write these few words and Admiral Nelson is on his radio show referring to these same young people and the foolishness that is happening in this country.

Please save this country. Dont let my country go down please !!

If the school system fail them, why all who went through the same system is not like them? people just used they talent to do different things, a lot of people want things the easy way and is not willing to put in the hard work, but when they get caught they blame everything on the earth for they predicament, and most of the times it is the devil who get the blame for they wicked ways

School system?? i went school too, and it aint fail me, I still standing strong, dont be involved in no crime, working ,aint stealing, walking bout with no gun. So tell me how the school system fail, it probaly fail you. They want things too damn easy, these people need to realize everybody aint born with a gold spoon in their mouths, Some of us have to work for what we want. They should get lock up for life, stupid ass young fellas. Jail here too easy on people, they need to see the harsh reality of jail time, and it should make them think twice before committing any crime. I can assure you, more people will look for work, and try to keep their jobs, instead of robbing people that trying to make little money.

@dave!!!!!! You said “The school system has failed Barbados”
That is Utter Foolishness, our Governor General Grew up as poor as anyone else on this Island, and Today he is “Governor General” Our PM went through this School System, and he is “Regetfully” our PM, and there are a Plethora of Bajans who were extermely POOR, some from Single Parent (Mothers) Homes who have made it to the top, that went through this system.
Laziness and Slothfulness has been around from Biblical times (See Matthew 25:14-30)
People have to learn to pull themselves up by their Bootstraps, and stop waiting for everything to be handed to them, they have to learn to use what Talents they have to further themselves, their problem is that they see things like you are seeing then, as somone else’s fault. you are encouraging them to Bury their Talent like the third worker in Matthew 25:14-30 did, and that’s why there are becoming LOSERS, like he did.

Not once in your comment did you as these , persons who you claim are being discriminated against in the School System, to step up to the Plate, and at least make an EFFORT to help themselves, instead you are in effect telling them that they were wronged, and that someone owes the something. YOU Dave are a part of the problem.
