Shirley Stewart to make Crop Over debut

Shirley Stewart will be making his Crop Over debut tonight

One of Barbados’ best entertainers will be making his Crop Over singing debut tonight when the Tornadoes Calypso Tent opens at the Roy Byer Auditorium (Village Gate) at Waterford, St. Michael.

Former lead singer with The Escorts and performer of the 1984 smash hit Walk Away From Love, Shirley Stewart, will be competing in the Pic-O-De-Crop competition this year. According to tent manager, Harvey “Pop” Daniel, Stewart has three songs which he will be performing during the festival.

Stewart migrated to the United States in 1979 after singing lead along with Jack Lee with the St Thomas-based Escorts for many years.

Joining Stewart in tonight’s cast will be Jah Stone, Jadu, Apollo, Princess Jan, Tall Boy, OB, Blank, Gregory G and Cut Loose.

Musical accompaniment will be provided by the Up and On Band, a group of talented musicians from the nearby Combermere School.

Showtime is 8 p.m. (WG)

Love Shirley; always loved his voice ; his singing; his songs BUT I feel that Spouge is his forte and along with the other Spouge singing persons such as Smokey Burke; Richard Stoute and Tony Grazzette , they should be making sure that the Beat is heard. Do your Soca ; do your calypso but also please do Spouge Music
    Thank you
