Seaweed surfer?

I [have] never seen anything like this in my life . . . the moss was thick like carpet,” said veteran surfer Zed Layson after he encountered a blanket of sargassum seaweed while surfing just off Silver Sands, Christ Church yesterday.

The moss came in and it was spectacular,” he told Barbados TODAY.

I caught and saved a fish that was surely doomed, swam it outside the moss and let it go . . . . Happy fish,” he added.

Here are some of the photos taken by the owner of Zed’s Surfing Adventures in Surfers Point, Inch Marlow, amid a losing battle by the authorities to control an influx of seaweed, particularly along the north, east and south coasts of the island.

Does anyone know why this is happening-it’s been happening for2 years now? I know it wouldn’t help the beaches much but seaweed is a wonderful fertilizer for crops-why not get the military out?
