After an extremely successful inaugural Health and Wellness week last year, the management of Colony Club Hotel is hosting the event again this year.

At the launch of the 2015 week recently, General Manager of the St. James property, Gayle Talma, explained that the first event was a complete success: “The response last year was so phenomenal that we decided to do it again this year. The response has been even better than last year and we have many more persons signing up to participate.

“This week is about the staff and getting them in tune with their health and wellness. It’s about giving them that extra push to continue eating well, exercising and living healthy lifestyles. We got them off to a good start last year and now this year we wanted to encourage them to continue living their new lifestyles.”

Talma noted that the activities for the week, which start on Monday, June 1, were being organised by Wellness Teams including Mind and Body, Sustainable Living, Living Well and Organic Living, with each team planning a day of activity.

“This year we will again start off with ‘The Doctor is in the House’ session, where staff members can get their blood pressure, sugar and other tests done to ensure that they are fit enough to start the week off on the right foot.

“We will also have Bio-Age Tests, as well as sessions on Getting Started with Exercise, Renewable Energy and You, Dental Care and Nutrition goes Hand-in-Hand, Herb and Vegetable Growing and Be Sharp – Heart Smart,” Talma explained.

She added that other activities will include road tennis, lawn tennis tournament, 9 km walk race, football, beach walks, zumba, restorative yoga for beginners and the most popular event, the Iron Man and Woman competition.
