Give back year for House of Soca

Sweet social commentary, wholesome calypso, good entertainment and a bellyful of laughs: this is some of what you may expect from the House Of Soca calypso tent for 2015.

Tent manager Sharon Carew-White would tell you this is the norm, really. But she informed the media during the tent’s launch at Freakz Customs last Saturday that as House Of Soca celebrated 35 years, it was more than about the music. Carew-White said it was about giving back to the sponsors and the patrons.

“Without them we can’t continue. Crop Over is about our people, our culture; it’s about our music. So, once you combine everything together, you’re good –– like we are doing here today, and for the rest of the season,” she explained.

The House Of Soca event, themed a motor launch, took the cast and some of the crew to various sponsor locations, including Divi Southwinds hotel and Montrose Supermarket.

Calypsonians taking to the House Of Soca stage this year are Sir Ruel, Popsicle, Jimmy Dan, Dre, Franswaa, Gallon, Ranaan, Sammy G, Shaki K, Honesty, Callie, Queen T, Shanz, Amber Stone, Gorg, Peter Ram, Farmer Ubu, Deano, Mr Mole and Kadeem.
