Vendor caught selling drugs from tray

COURT TODAY BLOCKSt Philip vendor Danpaul Singh was selling not only vegetables from his tray at Cheapside Market, but vegetable matter as well. That is what police officers found when they carried out a check there on Saturday.

Singh, of Industry Hall, pleaded guilty to possession, trafficking and intent to supply 250 grams of cannabis on that day. The 44-year-old went before acting Magistrate Alliston Seale in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

He also faces three similar charges which he must plead to when those are transferred to the District ‘C’ Magistrates Court on May 28.

After receiving information that Singh was selling marijuana from his vegetable tray, police went there to speak                         with him.

He pointed out two trays to police as being his. Thirty wrappings were found inside nine transparent plastic bags, which were in a tray next to his feet.

He was fined $1 500 in six months for possession of the drugs, with an alternative of four months in prison. Singh must find a further $2 500 in three months for trafficking the marijuana, or a face a year in jail.

He was convicted, reprimanded and discharged for intent to supply.
