Jada St Lucy plant hit by fire
Fire has destroyed a storage bond at Jada Construction’s, Spring Hall, St Lucy plant.
It was around 10:30 a.m. today when a worker noticed fire emanating from the bond, where lumber and other construction materials are usually stored.
The blaze, which is the third to occur on the site since 2007, also damaged an adjacent building.
Speaking to Barbados TODAY immediately after the fire was brought under control, General Manager Paul Lewis said he could not give an exact dollar value, but he estimated that losses could run into the “tens of thousands”.
A total of 12 fire officers, under the command of acting Deputy Chief Fire Officer Lloydson Phillips, responded to the report, along with two fire tenders and one water tanker.
“The fire officers did an excellent job. It was a raging fire with flames rising as high as 30 feet in the air,” said Lewis, who also praised staff for assisting in extinguishing the blaze.
