Man to pay for damaging television set

COURT TODAY BLOCKAn ex-boyfriend was ordered to compensate a woman for damaging her television yesterday.

Winston O’Neal Walkes has four months to come up with $2 300 for the television or he will spend nine months in prison.

Additionally, the 30-year-old has to pay a $500 fine within the next six weeks. The alternative is four months in jail.

Walkes, who lives at #46 Princess Royal Avenue, Pine, St. Michael, appeared in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court before acting Magistrate Alliston Seale.

It all began when Walkes’ ex-girlfriend went to his home on April 29 with a police escort.

Sergeant Neville Reid said the woman went to remove her personal items from the residence after ending the relationship in January this year.

When the party arrived, Walkes was at home and the police explained to him why they were there. However, when the woman went to get the television set, Walkes became aggressive and told police, “I gine give wunna something to charge me for”.

He then removed the television from its stand – which he damaged during the process, went to the door and threw the television face-down on the ground.

Acting Magistrate Alliston Seale took issue with Walkes’ disregard for the police who were present.

“That was total ignorance,” Seale remarked.
