Fire damages uninsured Bay Street building

Fire extensively damaged a two-storey uninsured building on Bay Street and slightly damaged another next door this morning.

The building owned by Vashti Hinds contained a number of apartments, two of which were occupied by Christopher John Brooks and Stephen Gittens.

The tenants were not at home at the time of the blaze.

Three fire tenders and 10 officers under the leadership of acting Deputy Chief Fire Officer Lloydson Phillips responded to the fire, which started around 7:15 a.m.

The Fire Service Department said the origin of the blaze was still unknown and investigations were continuing.
