Magistrate jails liquor thieves caught on camera

COURT TODAY BLOCKTwo men who were jailed for nine months by Magistrate Ian Weekes last Friday, added another six months to their jail time today.

Pearson Omar Jerome Jordan, 32, of no fixed place of abode and Richardo Winfield Mayers, 30, of Bannister Land, Martindales Road, St Michael, pleaded guilty to two joint counts of theft in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court.

Technology played a major role in nabbing the duo.

Jordan and Mayers stole two bottles of brandy from the Cave Shepherd Vista Store in Christ Church, on January 27 this year.

After security guard Nyron Weekes saw them acting suspiciously, he approached them but they left the store.

Weekes reported his suspicions to the manager and when they reviewed the CCTV, they saw the men stealing the liquor. Jordan and Mayers were given six months to run concurrent to the nine months already being served.

On February 11, the pair went into the Massy Stores Rendezvous branch. An employee later found security tags in the aisle which the manager realized belonged to bottles of Hennessey brandy that were on display in the store. It was subsequently discovered that four bottles were missing.

When the security footage was checked, Jordan and Mayers were seen taking up the brandy and removing the tags.

Magistrate Douglas Frederick sentenced them to six months to run consecutively.

Mayers also confessed to a third crime – taking up a bottle of vodka from Cave Shepherd Vista on February 2. Again, he was seen on camera putting the bottle in his waist and leaving the store.

He was sentenced to an additional month in prison.

These guys are obviously alcoholics, why else would some one keep stealing alcohol, they need an AA program while in jail.
