House goes up in flames

A two-bedroom wooden house was destroyed by fire in St Michael this afternoon.

The house belonged to a D. Stuart, who is deceased, but according to officials it was illegally occupied.

Police spokesman David Welch said no one was injured during the blaze but two other houses –– both wall and wooden –– were damaged.

Seven firemen in two tenders, one from Probyn Street and the other from Worthings, responded to the blaze, which occurred just around 1 p.m., in Long Gap, Spooner’s Hill, St Michael.

Up to late this evening, lawmen were still trying to determine the cause of the fire.
