Warrican snares 8-wicket haul

Barbados’ left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican was the star of the day as the Leeward Islands Hurricanes were dismissed for 215 in their first-innings on the opening day of their eighth round WICB PCL first-class match at Warner Park today.

Jomel Warrican captured eight wickets.

Jomel Warrican captured eight wickets.

Warrican, fresh from receiving the Barbados Cricket Association’s 2014 player of the year accolade, recorded career-best figures of eight for 88 in 35.3 overs. At the close of play Barbados Pride were 27 without loss off 13 overs in reply with the not out batsmen Kraigg Brathwaite on 14 and Kyle Corbin on 13.

Opener Lyndel Richardson top-scored for the Leeward Islands with 51 but found precious little support from the fragile Hurricanes’ batting line-up. Richardson eventually also fell to Warrican when he was caught at slip by Ashley Nurse. Burly off-spinner Rahkeem Cornwall also showed some resistance with the bat scoring 48 before he was sixth out, caught by Brathwaite at cover off the spin of Nurse.

Pacer Miguel Cummins took the other wicket to fall and ended with figures of one for 23. Nurse had figures of one for 47.
