Man finally admits to drug offences

COURT TODAY BLOCKAfter denying for more than a year that he committed four drug-related offences, a St Michael man today decided to admit his wrongdoing.

When he reappeared in the District “B” Magistrates’ Court, Dereck Decoursey Jones, of 1A Furniehurst, Black Rock, pleaded guilty to possession, trafficking, importation and intent to supply five and a half pounds of marijuana.

On November 1, 2013, Jones arrived in Barbados from Jamaica.

After clearing Immigration, he was stopped, interviewed by police and then referred to Customs.

When Jones’ suitcase was searched, two packages of cannabis were found in a false bottom.

Acting Magistrate Anthony Blackman adjourned the matter pending a presentencing report.
