Man charged with near $1 million jewellery heist
A 26-year-old man appeared before Chief Magistrate Pamela Beckles at the Oistins Magistrates’ Court today, charged with stealing almost $1 million worth of jewellery from a Christ Church hotel.
Rommel Jamal Small, of no fixed place of abode, is charged that sometime between January 3 and 10 this year, he entered the Butterfly Beach Hotel as a trespasser and stole two rings valued $892,000, two pairs of earrings valued $66,000, a chain and pendant worth $40,000, and $60 in cash.
The total value of the items, which belonged to Swiss visitor Brigitte Mavromichalish, was $998,060.
He was not required to plead to the indictable charge and was remanded to prison until March 9.
