Husband accused of assaulting wife
. . . cuffing her about the face and ear
A St Michael man was granted $500 personal bail after he admitted to assaulting his wife on January 14.
However, Magistrate Douglas Frederick ordered Colin Andrew Carew to return to court today with a surety, which he did.
Carew resides at 2nd Avenue Grazettes, St Michael but his wife is currently overseas.
According to the prosecutor, the woman, Jewel Gittens, who is a United States citizen, had returned to Barbados in an effort to reconcile with her husband.
On the mentioned date, she noticed a hammer in the bed which she was sharing with the accused. When she questioned him about it, he became angry. He then cuffed her in the area of her left ear and about the face.
The mason is a first-time offender.
On Monday, Carew told the court that he never cuffed his wife in her face, but she received scratches when he held her face and pushed her towards the wall. Carew insisted he is “not a violent person”.
His matter was adjourned until April 2, when Gittens is expected to appear in court.
