Yellow on top
Thanks to top performances from Tristan Evelyn in division one, Yellow House captured their second consecutive title with 563.50 points at Springer Memorial’s Inter-house sports day at the National Stadium today.
Blue House with 552.50 points placed second, Purple House with 546.50 points took third spot, Red House tallied 473 for fourth position and Green House’s 224.50 points were good only for fifth position.
Evelyn scored 62.50 points for Yellow House but did not capture the senior victrix ludorum title which went to Sierra Coward who represented Blue House in division two and amassed 78 points. The junior victrix ludorum was Selena Johnson also of Blue House with 65 points in the division three events.
Blue House did not win but they took away the division titles including division four thanks to Dymon Clarke who scored 53 points. Purple House also had something to shout about through Julisa Jones-Smith in division five with 62 points.
Earlier in the morning before the start of activities on the track and field, Scotiabank’s marketing manager, Amanda Lynch-Foster, revealed that the bank had decided to enter into a sponsorship partnership with the school because track and field deserved it.
“While cricket is arguably still king in the Caribbean, it is track and field which has had so much less money and attention, that has really been proving its worth. In fact in recent years it has been our track and field athletes who have been making us proud, breaking records and dominating the rest of the world,” Lynch- Foster said.
She added: “Springer has a big part to play in the development of track and field in Barbados as your school has been an unstoppable force for 15 years now at interschool sports. So when we were approached about the possibility of sponsoring Springer – that was easy for us to say yes to. We had first partnered with Springer on a smaller scale a few years ago in 2013 when we sent your relay team to participate in the Toronto International Track and Field Games. That came about because we knew the quality of your school’s athletics program and we’re proud that we are now officially associated with it.
