Trinidad- Four critical after gas explosion

Four persons are said to be in critical condition following a gas explosion on Thursday at a fast food outlet just outside the capital.

The explosion in Maraval, sent 13 people to hospital and also caused major damage to five small businesses.

It is still not known what triggered the explosion during the reloading of cooking gas at El Pecos fast food outlet.


The police report that the truck delivering supplies had already detached its hoses and was away from the point of the blast.

Windowpanes were blown out and there was also damage to the walls and other infrastructure.

Thursday’s regular Cabinet meeting was adjourned following news of the incident.

Health Minister Dr Fuad Khan, who visited the scene, ordered the clearing of a ward at the Port of Spain General Hospital to treat the injured. (CMC)
