ICBL to sponsor polo for three years

At a time when sponsorship can be hard to come by, at least one polo competition doesn’t have to worry for the next three years.

In just their first year as the title sponsor for the Roger Gooding Memorial Trophy, the Insurance Corporation of Barbados Limited (ICBL), has pledged its support to the annual competition from 2016 through to 2018.

ICBL’s senior vice-president of business development and marketing, Alex Tasker made the disclosure yesterday during a press conference to launch the annual competition at the Apes Hill Polo Club this afternoon.

Now in its third year, Tasker gave his assurance that the company would continue to associate itself with such a high quality event.

“We at the ICBL will offer our continued support and we are going to make a commitment to sponsor the 2016, 2017 and 2018 tournaments.

“So I think that will take away some of the guesses out there about as to where we plan to go with polo. As we grow in the sport we hope that more and more people appreciate the effort . . .” Tasker noted.

This year seven teams are scheduled to compete in the tournament, which kicks off on February 17 at the Apes Hill ground.

Group One will include Apes Hill, Silver Point, Clifton and Lion Castle, while Group Two will feature a second Apes Hill unit, Range Rover and ICBL.

Teddy Williams, who will captain the ICBL team said Gooding was one who was “always there for the fun of the game and the enjoyment and love of it.”
