Police officer among trio facing drug charges
Three men – including a police officer – are to appear in court here today following the seizure of 12 pounds of cannabis.
Special constable Jimmy Thorne, 37, of Coach Hill, St. John has been charged with two counts of possession, one count of possession with intent to supply; and one count of trafficking in cannabis.
His younger brother Jamal Andre Thorne, 32, of Cherry Grove, St. John is jointly charged with two counts of possession; two counts of possession with intent to supply; and two counts of trafficking in cannabis.
Ross Ashton, a 37 year old businessman of Rosemont, Deacons Road, St. Michael, has also been charged with “acts preparatory for the purpose of trafficking”, according to police statement issued this morning.
The charges stem from an incident last Sunday in which police intercepted a motorcar at Bay Street, St. Michael in which the Thorne brothers were occupants. A search of the vehicle’s trunk revealed 12 lbs of cannabis. Further investigations led to the arrest of Ashton.
Police say Jimmy Thorne was searched and a small amount of cannabis was found on him. A search warrant was executed at the residence of Jamal Thorne and a quantity of cannabis was found and seized.
