Bail on Ecstasy charge

todays courtA man accused of having 60 Ecstasy tablets has been granted bail but he will have to check in with police every week while
he is out.

Jamal Manyatta Gill, of Mount All, St Andrew pleaded not guilty to the offence, allegedly committed on Januray 25, when he appeared in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court today.

In his application for bail, attorney-at-law Oliver Thomas told the court that Gill was not a flight risk, he was unlikely to interfere with any witnesses, and there was no real evidence to suggest that he would commit other crimes.

He further argued that the charge was for a drug offence and had not been committed against any person.

In grating $7,500 bail, Acting Magistrate Alliston Seale told Gill he would have to report to the Belleplaine Police Station every Wednesday before 10 a.m., with identification.

The case was adjourned until April 20.
