Volleyball classic starts January 11

Some of Barbados’ best volleyballers will showcase their skills when the Barbados Volleyball Association stages its All Star series to cap the conclusion of the Division 1 regular season that officially ended in November.

The All Star event had been in hiatus for sometime but has been resurrected by the BVA’s assistant secretary/ treasurer Carol-Lyn Edghill and has received the support of the association’s executive board.

The series is in an effort to raise funds for the national programs and to create an end of season tournament which will be an annual occurrence.

The three match series will be played this month and in February. Two female teams and two male teams comprising of 26 female players and 28 male players were selected by the Division 1 club coaches. Each team will have at least two national junior members for development purposes.

The matches will be held on January 11, 18 and February 1 at the Wildey Gymnasium. The women’s match will start at 5 p.m. and the men’s match at 7 p.m. The games will follow the three best of five format – first team to win three sets win. Slight rule changes such as an unlimited number of subs and libero serving will be implemented.

Teams suiting up are: Club United, Carlton United, Flow Sentry Insurance Deacons, Brydens Rockets, Toners,  Pan American Life Insurance Warrens, Cawmere, Foundation United, Gourmet Express  Progressive, Juniors.
