Combermere trounce Ellerslie

Nicholls Baking Combermere are into the semi-final of the Barbados Cricket Association’s Under-19 40-Overs Cricket Competition after defeating Ellerslie by 155 runs at their Waterford “A” ground today.

Ellerslie won the toss on a good batting wicket and inserted their hosts to bat and they responded with 218 all out in 38.9 overs. In response Ellerslie were bundled out for 63 in 19.2 overs. Combermere’s total was driven  by the efforts of Ian Boyce who top-scored with 57 and Nicholas Kirton who made 52. Tremaine Edwards was also among the runs for Combermere with 39, Hasani Newton made 26 and Leniko Butcher chipped in with 12. Ellerslie fast bowler Kyle Scantlebury finished with the impressive figures of 5 for 41 from his spell of eight overs while Jadeja Edwards chipped in with three wickets for 50 runs in 7.4 overs.

The Black Rock, St Michael school had no answer to the well-rounded Combermere attack. Off-spinners Renaldo Callender took three for 15 in 5.2 and Boyce two for seven runs from three overs. Edwards also grabbed two for 11 from three overs while fast bowlers Shamar Springer claimed two for 18 in four overs and Keon Harding one for 12 from four. Jadeja Edwards top scored with 12 runs for Ellerslie.

In another quarter-final played today at Richmond Gap, St Leonard’s scored an easy victory over the visiting Grantley Adams School.

Last week at Martindale’s Road, Harrison College defeated the St Michael School by six wickets to secure their place in the semi-final round.
