Customs hitch

With just over a week to go before Christmas, work at the Barbados Excise & Customs Department, where the majority of Christmas barrels are usually cleared, was drastically slowed today for an extended period, creating some level of panic.

Officials have put the blame on systems maintenance that was carried out over the weekend.

And while impact in terms of dollar amounts was not immediately clear, Barbados TODAY was informed that operations, which were hindered for most of the morning, returned to normal just after midday.
